John Walker and Sons King George V Blended Scotch Whisky
Rarity reflected in every drop. John Walker and Sons King George V Blended Scotch Whisky has been created to celebrate the monarch who granted us our first Royal Warrant in 1934. Our makers drew on our archives to hand-select whiskies from distilleries that existed during his reign. This includes some of the rarest in our reserves, including irreplaceable casks from the now-closed Port Ellen distillery. Much like its namesake, it has a great depth of character and elegant reserve.
In 1820, John Walker started out in business with a single small shop, but he always had big ambitions. Just over a century later, John Walker & Sons was awarded a Royal Warrant by King George V.
By then, Johnnie Walker was already well on its way to becoming the world’s most popular Scotch Whisky. Becoming a supplier to the Royal Household was an important step on that journey.
John Walker & Sons King George V commemorates the granting of the Royal Warrant on 1 January 1934.
It is created using only the finest whiskies from distilleries that were operating during George’s twenty-five-year reign (1910 – 1936), some of which, like the famed Port Ellen, no longer exist. They are blended together to reflect the distinctive Johnnie Walker style of the era.
A special extension of the Johnnie Walker range, King George V celebrates the first Royal Warrant granted to John Walker and Sons Ltd to supply Scotch whisky to the British Royal Household in 1934, and is apparently designed to recreate how JW might have tasted back in the day. Some Port Ellen has been used, alongside Cardhu, Lochnagar and some very old grain whisky.
